THE BITE

Living In Suburbia

The 'funky country experiment' paid off as audiences screamed for more. Living In Suburbia is just a taste of the songs and the vibe that The Bite has served up at every show.

Then there's the "hard house" version of Waltzing Matilda, thier own versions of Goanna's 'Solid Rock' and Red Hot Chilli Pepper's 'Walkabout'. Add to this another whole swag full of thier own in-your-face funky country songs, and thier typical 4 hour show is complete!

Living in Suburbia is the only official album recording of The Bite. Songs recorded for single relaease are Waltzing Matilda and a funkier didgeridoo version of The Bite's own Australian Girl -The Cathy Freeman Song.

Some of the funkier, chunkier songs have apparently been recorded at gigs, and as these "bootlegs" are found, they will be made available.

Let It Rain - (C) 1994 Robinson

"Papa you're a crazy one" she used to say out loud,

"Going out while storms are blowin 'round"
Shakin' rain off his old hat, he looks at her and smiles and says,
"I might be getting older now, but I'm not wearing down"

There's things that I can do - if I wanted to,
So sad to wait until it's gone....

What's it really matter 'bout the changes in the weather

It's alright, let it rain, let it rain,
Doesn't really matter if we're holding on together,
It's alright, let it rain.

Thinking back some time ago, he squints to get it clear,

He took a ride to see his future wife.
Old Joe was nearly taken out by some crazy driver way down south,
And now old Joe's just glad to be alive, (With things that I can do...)

Hold on, Hold on....So sad to wait until it's gone....

So he tells her 'bout that night,
Then takes her by the hand and smilesand says,
"Let's go and eat out in the rain"
And laughing out "you crazy fool",
In her nightgown and her welly boots
They're dancing out at midnight in the rain.

Hold on, Hold on....So sad to wait until it's gone....

"Papa you're a crazy one" she used to say out loud,

"Going out while storms are blowin 'round"
But hey it doesn't matter, as long as we're together

It's alright - Let it rain

It's alright - Let it rain

Pleased To Meet Ya - (C) 1994 Robinson/Douglass

Pleased to meet ya, once again,

Know the features, let's pretend

Been so long, I lost your calling card again

Dinner parties, best of friends

School reunions, lost weekends,

Catch a memory of the way it was back then.

After all this time, tell me what's your name?

After all this time, tell me what's your name?

In the meantime, how you been?

Absent minded, absent friends

So many people, and all the things we did between

After all this time, tell me what's your name?

After all this time, tell me what's your name?

Tell me what's your name...

Let's get together, make some time,

Won't you call me, use my line

You got your life, and I've been happy leading mine

After all this time, tell me what's your name?

After all this time, tell me what's your name?

Pleased to meet ya, Pleased to meet ya.

Fallen Angel - (C) 1994 Robinson / Douglass

She comes, like a thief in the night,

I swear, she says, I believe it's right

But when morning comes, and we carry on,

I see the light is coming from inside

Like that I found a world

That brings us more than this,

Can't look through fallen angel's eyes,

There's more than this.....

She's gone, with the truth in her sights,

Who dares? Don't ask, but does she live a lie?

When night time comes, to cover us,

I see the light is coming from inside

Like that I found a world

That brings us more than this,

Can't look through fallen angel's eyes,

There's more than this.....

Ay-oh, ay-oh,

Don't believe a word,

Can't look through fallen angel's eyes,

There's more than this.....

Don't believe a word they say,

No need to sacrifice,

You can throw it all away,

You got to make it up,

You want to live it up,

And find your paradise.

When nightime comes to cover us,

We see the thief and all our doubts,

I know the light is coming from inside............

Money - (C) 1994 Robinson

Hangin' out and waitin' for Friday

Never gonna make it alive

Gettin' up and workin' from Monday

Always at the back of my mind

Punchin' in the clock on a payday

Find me at the front of the line

Wishin' that the money were comin' you know

For the sweat I do instead of the time

All I want is just a little money,

Count it up and say that it's all mine,

Only more money

Gives me satisfaction every time.

Since I was a sweet little baby

Been thinkin' 'bout it every day

Lookin' for the pleasures of money

Hopin' theyd be comin' to me

Even if I wanted a dollar

I was beggin' mama down on my knees

Only got to makin' me wonder you know

Why she ever bothered teachin' me please

I never complicated the issue

The qualities in my life are free

But workin' every day for a dollar

Means everything is harder to see

Crazy if I call it a livin'

'Cause livin' aint what I wanna do

When I'm workin' every day for a dollar

Aand I never ever get to livin' with you.

Mend Your Broken Heart - (C) 1993 Robinson

You're such a fool - you wanna cry

You never seem to wonder why

You bring it all undone

When it hurts - it never shows

It's like a dream - but you don't know

You're not the only one

Look at the art of survival

It's all up to you

When you gonna start

There's no love on arrival

It's the thinking you do

You gotta mend - mend your broken heart

Another day - you wanna scream

You never smile it only seems

That it goes on and on

They make you sweat - they make you turn

The memories you gotta burn

Whatever's done is done

This is the law of the jungle

There's nowhere to run

When you gonna start

You're makin' this trouble

With the things that you do

You gotta mend - mend your broken heart.

Rose Coloured Glasses - (C) 1993 Robinson

I got these glasses, with an odd kind of view,

They make me happy, when I'm looking at you.

They make the place all cosy, make me sweat,

They make you look all rosy, now I'm getting closer

Won't you give me a kiss..

I got my rose coloured glasses, they keep me looking at you.

Rose coloured glasses, they keep me tied up and true.

It's a strange kind of spectacle that keeps me feeling special

With my rose coloured glasses, rose coloured glasses and you.

I hear you laughing, when I ask you to stay,

I feel you touch me, when you push me away,

I know you're thinking about me when you're shaking,

I know you're lost without me, that's why you never make it over

Give me a kiss....

(It's a strange kind of principle that keeps me feeling simple)

I clean them, I rub them, I'll only ever love them,

I'm staying right behind them, I just can't resist

They see you, they show you, they help me get to know you,

Now I'm getting closer won't you give me a kiss...

(It's a strange kind of spectacle that keeps me feeling special)

It must be madness, the things that I get to see,

A heart of sadness, when you're looking at me

Now I'm getting over that special you,

I took a look in the mirror to see that I'm special too

So give me a kiss....

Living In Suburbia - (C) 1993 Robinson

She takes her purse out - lays her lipstick on the lot
He sees the mirror and he knows it's got to stop
He starts the fireworks like some crazy Guy Fawkes night
Exploding on her but she does not dare to cry
He plays a hero and he keeps her home tonight
She gets a zero cause she's got no right to fight about it
Hey now here we are living in suburbia.........

He takes his freedom, sometimes he just won't get home
She's waited long enough and now she's on the phone
She's lived the curse out, taking good times from her life
Takes off to party but it's gunna bring some strife
He finds an empty house and he ends up on the juice
Then he heads off downtown like a killer on the loose to find her
Hey now here we are living in suburbia.........

Take a right - What's left is mine

She swears to make it but her broken lips are sealed
Nobody wants to hear the truth when it's revealed
Take an example from an older generation
No light, no sight - no right to fight, no education
And still the colour seems to fade to black and white
She's just a woman and she's got no right to fight about it
Hey now here we are living in suburbia.........

She wants to take the right to fight the degradation
He wants the power for another generation
She's got a secret but it's harder to believe
She'll never take the right and so she'll never leave
Definition mister meaning master as he pleases
He's standing over as she's beggin' on her knees "you wanna
Take a right !?"

Fool's Paradise - (C) 1994 Robinson / Douglass

I don't envy you,

Wouldn't be there if I could,

Wouldn't do it if I should,

No I don't envy you.

I don't need a thing,

But my freedom and my life,

Never want to be with you,

In a fool's paradise.

My eyes are open now

These roads I travel down,

They take me home,

They don't lead to your fool's paradise..

I don't want your way,

Want to do it like I do,

Every moment,every day,

No I don't envy you.

Australian Girl (The Cathy Freeman Song) - (C) 1994 Robinson / Douglass

Giant strides

Like a thousand times before across the line

She knows no ordinary state of mind

All she needs

All she craves

Is the pleasure of the moment

And the beauty of the game

She breathes a new emotion

Untamed and bound to change the world

No lies, no false devotion

She is an all Australian girl

Unified

Beneath a hot Victorian summer sky

A flag for every nation set to fly

Here and now

Ah she can

With a future and a vision

In her heart and in her hands

She breathes a new emotion

Untamed and bound to change the world

No lies, no false devotion

She is an all Australian girl

All Australian, all Australian.

Talk About It - (C) 1994 Robinson

Watch this space and take your time, to get a

Non stop pace and work your ryme together.

Lay it down, and hold on tight, no matter

What you say, it's all inside the rhythm.

Make no space, no breathing time, settle it now,

Make it a vow, fiddle a little bit till you break it down,

Close your eyes to things that blind you, let it

Take you to the limit when you feel it coming over you,

Talk, Say it how you feel about it now,

Show it up and let it all out loud,

This is how you work it out,

And how you get it right.

Watch my face and meet my eyes, and every

Word you say will bring our minds together

Speak to me, your soul confidant, as a

Tongue will warm with lips dividing, when you

Touch me with your deep inside, bringing it up

Giving it up, living a little bit as you open it up

Close your eyes and feel inside you,

'Til you're breathing t' the rhythm an you're giving what's inside o' you.........Talk.............

Sweet mistakes and healing time,

They want a word that breaks the stealing silence over

Planted thoughts and buried minds,

They live an ache for freedom and survival, ,

when you

Touch me with your deep inside, bringing it up

Giving it up, living a little bit as you open it up

Close your eyes and feel inside you,

'Til you're breathing t' the rhythm an you're giving what's inside o' you.........Talk.............

I Just Cant Help Myself - (C) 1994 Robinson

Is it any wonder - I can't help my

Selfish for another - piece of your pie

Tongue is moving under - and I roll my

Eyes are looking over - over your slice

Thinkin' 'bout the weather - to get my mind off

Going for another - but it's the last slice

Now it's worse than ever - I can't wait to

Get on up and do it again

''Oh no'', she says, ''I just can't'' - ''Oh no'', ''I just can't''

''Oh no'', she says,

I just can't help myself - just can't help myself .

Back into the kitchen - to see my eyes light

Up you turn the fire - cookin' your pie

Lookin' like a picture - I can't wait to

Get on up and do it again

Back into the kitchen - to see my eyes light

Up you turn the fire and I just can't help myself

''Oh no'', she says, ''I just can't'' - ''Oh no'', ''I just can't''

''Oh no'', she says, ''Oh no,
I just can't help myself ---------".

Wings - (C) 1993 Robinson

It was a wet November morning,

And our train was slowly drawing out of Alice Springs .

Could not have left an hour too soon,

It was raining like the darkest June I'd ever seen.

Then only 'cause we had to pray,

The track behind us washed away, but we made it through

I couldn't tell at that tender age

That more than just another page in life was due. Mmm

My sister was a baby,

And I thought that somehow maybe we be back again,

I could hardly see out through the rain,

And I had to learn to face the pain of leaving friends.

I was just an outback boy,

And I loved the way we made our toys from simple things,

My backyard was scrub and hills,

And I saw myself like Bourke or Wills, but I had wings.

My father's job was in the sky,

He said that he'd teach me to fly when I'm old enough,

Sometimes he'd let me take control,

I was only nine years old, but I knew my stuff.

But all those things began to fade

When we moved down to Adelaide with family ties,

More than disappointed then,

I had to learn it all again, through different eyes.

I never even thought it strange

When everything began to change, it went so slow

My father looked out distantly,

Couldn't tell if it was him or me, I just don't know

But it turned out that our beliefs

Meant one of us just had to leave for sanity,

And so I lived with Grandpapa,

He taught piano and guitar, and believed in me

You can never see what's coming on,

Until it's been, and then it's gone, and it's too late,

But I wish I'd seen the danger,

Of feeling like a stranger on his final day.

So at fourteen I hit the road,

I felt alone, I guess it showed, but I had it all,

Sleeping nights with my guitar,

Busking in the coffee bars and city malls.

Now I can't explain the feeling

When late at night I'm wheeling down some dotted line,

But my baby sister's married now,

And I got a girl that knows somehow that I'll be fine

As for learning flying dad,

I guess the years don't seem so bad, now it's coming true,

I know I can't have your wings,

But I can fly on these six strings to be with you.
