The "rules of play" are processes and policies that have been developed over a number of years to ensure the best experience possible for our clients, and to enhance ongoing work prospects and consistency of income to all the musicians in the team.

Musicians please note that we coordinate, record, release, and promote you locally and internationally at no cost to you and very little effort on your part. In return, we ask that you follow some simple rules. See below.

Musicians Call Hours Policies

Pertaining to performance times, sound check and rehearsals.

• Call time begins 1 hour before the doors open to the public unless otherwise stipulated in an individual contract for the booking.

• A last-minute rehearsal of new or unfamiliar material as an ensemble is expected as part of soundcheck and is included in the paid time on the job.

• YOUR AGREEMENT - It is expected that when musicians agree to a booking time, that they make themselves available for 15 to 20 minutes after the official performance finish time to play on, or encore if the moment requires. This is entirely at the discretion of the band leader. Musicians must give notice to management in advance if they need to leave by a certain time, so that this can be arranged with the client if necessary. Musicians that watch the clock so they can "pack up at midnight" will be considered unfavourably for future work, as this attitude goes against our promise to provide a professional service.

On Call Conduct Policies

• PLEASE DO NOT STEAL FROM US - While on call – There must be no soliciting of bookings or work prospects that will in any way circumvent, undermine, or interfere with the relevant agent, management, or “Jazz Kats” promotions. We spend thousands of advertising dollars every year to make work available to you. Supplying anyone at all with your card on the job amounts to taking advantage of our spending, and then keeping the returns yourself. This is stealing, and will result in the instant termination of all your future work and promotion with the "Jazz Kats" organisation.

• DIRECTING ENQUIRIES - While on call – All booking enquiries and prospects with clients must be acted on with one or more of the following;

a) Be directed to “Jazz Kats” management personally for further enquiry
b) Directed to the website for online samples and booking
c) Pass on a business card that has been supplied to you by management, bearing relevant contact details.

Please note, it is recommended that you put your name on the reverse of the card so that any prospects you may gain from the performance come back to you upon enquiry by the client.

last-minute rehearsal of new or unfamiliar material as an ensemble is expected as part of soundcheck and is included in the paid time on the job.

NO INTOXICATION OF ANY KIND IS ALLOWED - While on call and/or visible or audible to clients and being associated with a “Jazz Kats” performance, all musicians must present themselves as sober and dignified individuals. Remember that the "Jazz Kats" pool provides entertainment for all walks of life, from children to government presentations. Your appearance on the gig will define the public's assumptions by association about all “Jazz Kats” musicians. Please take the time to find out if there are any dress rules or themes that apply for every gig, and present yourself accordingly. Reports of intoxication will be looked upon unfavourably for your future work prospects.

Preparation / Rehearsal Policies

  • Charts and repertoire must be rehearsed at least two weeks before each show. It is up to you to do any required practice after/between rehearsals to ensure your performance is up to par. Please do NOT bring charts onto the gig other than those that have been organised and/or discussed in rehearsals. Check your mailbox at due intervals to ensure that you have the latest versions of charts, and discard the old ones.

Thank You

Management
